Dr. Stephen Frye, Social studies Teacher

Dr. Frye received his Juris Doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh in 2003, specializing in tax law, immigration and international business law. He is still engaged in legal consulting for companies involved in business between Asia and North America.

Dr. Frye received his B.A. from the Michigan State University in 2000 completing a major in Interdisciplinary Humanities, a self-designed major consisting of a triple concentration in the fields of History, Asian Studies and Psychology for which he was required to complete over 150 semester hours. During his tenure at MSU , Dr. Frye also spent 4 semesters studying at university in Japan as part of a joint program between the Shiga Prefecture in Japan and the State of Michigan at the Japan Center for Michigan Universities. Dr. Frye was also an active participant in student government and served as president of the University Apartments Advisory Board and made the Dean’s list during his time in university.

Dr. Frye has been involved in higher education for more than a decade and has served as the first full time foreign law professor at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and was the longest serving foreign professor at Kyunghee University’s Department of International Trade in the history of that highly regarded institution. Dr. Frye still maintains an active involvement with the university community and regularly does guest lectures and paid speaking engagements, most recently at the South Western University of Finance and Economics School of Law in Chengdu and the Shanghai Sports University here in Shanghai. In addition Dr. Frye has spoken at various seminars on Early Childhood education.

Dr. Frye is also an accomplished musician, having attended the Musicians’ Institute in Hollywood, California where he majored in Professional Guitar and earned his living as a professional guitarist and singer as well as a professional DJ before returning to university at the age of 26. Dr. Frye is also a former athlete who was a five time Ohio State Judo champion as well as a state free-style wrestling champion when in high school. In addition Frye earned the Silver Medal in the National Judo Championship in 1984 at the age of 16. Dr. Frye currently serves as Academic Supervisor for Cornerstone Academy Shanghai Campus.
