“And there she was: Little Red Riding Hood...”

Pajama Day

Reading, like an invisible bridge, tightly connects readers around the world. In this era of globalization, we may not be able to physically traverse every corner of the world, but reading allows our minds to traverse thousands of mountains and rivers, to appreciate the local customs, to feel the lifestyles of people in different regions, and to understand the history and culture of different ethnic groups.

The Reading Carnival organized by the MKBS Primary School is a vivid microcosm of the school’s reading culture. During this week filled with fun and excitement, the children of MKBS truly experienced the charm of reading through a series of colorful activities.

Book Character Parade

Acompanied by lively music, characters like "Sherlock Holmes", "Lin Daiyu", “Spider-Man”, and "Zhu Bajie" marched forward. These characters from books seemed to revive from the pages, walking together in MKBS to explore this beautiful learning paradise.

Following the footsteps of the “young protagonists”, we first arrived at the Black Box Theatre, where an extraordinary storytelling event was unfolding. Through an immersive experience of the picture book “The Gift of the Comet”, they got to know the protagonist, Nilla, and learned how to adapt to a new life, and grasp the true meaning of home.

“And there she was: Little Red Riding Hood...” The children listened attentively to the audiobook on the myON reading platform and actively participated in the role-playing reading. Through such listening and reading exercises, the children successfully and efficiently completed the story sequencing activity prepared by their teacher.

As a crucial tool for English teaching at MKBS, the online graded reading library myON plays a significant role in enhancing children’s reading volume and reading comprehension abilities. Based on the books read by the children on the myON platform, teachers organized a scavenger hunt activity. With excitement in their hearts, the children collected various “treasure fragments” and pieced together scattered characters and plots to form complete stories. This engaging teaching method not only allowed the children to fully immerse themselves in learning during class, but also sparked their infinite enthusiasm for reading after class.

The wonderful visual creativity also captivated the children, drawing them to a halt. At the small table where illustrations were being drawn, the art teacher seemed to possess magical powers. With a mere stroke of the pen, the caricature images of the children sprang vividly to life on paper.

As a mellow cello concerto echoed, the “young protagonists” gathered around the rainbow staircase. Some stopped to listen, some swayed gently, and others hummed softly, all immersed in the unparalleled beauty of the music.

Additionally, there were also activities like book knowledge quizzes, nose-sticking games for book characters, book matching games, bookmark making, Chinese and English bookstalls, and so on. These diverse and distinctive events provided the children with a fulfilling and memorable experience.

Pajama Day

Welcomed by the gentle morning breeze, the children walked into the campus one after another, filled with anticipation and excitement. They eagerly replaced their school uniforms with comfortable pajamas of various styles, and hurried towards the Underwater Reading Room at MKBS.

Here, some of them sat on the soft carpet, flipping through their favorite books, while others leaned against the cozy sofas, lost in the world of fairytales. The softness of their pajamas and the tranquility of the reading room complemented each other greatly, creating a sense of unprecedented relaxation and ease for the children.

The Pajama Day brought a unique reading experience to the children, allowing them to fully enjoy the pleasure of reading in a comfortable environment and nourishing and relaxing their minds.

By clicking on the colored blocks covering the book covers on the computer screen, an intriguing game of guessing book titles began. As the blocks gradually disappeared, the patterns on the covers gradually revealed, and the children immediately engaged in a fierce race to answer.

After the game, the children couldn’t wait to take out their favorite books to exchange with each other, and the senior children also changed into “young salesmans”, describing the wonderful storyline to the junior children in a colorful way, sowing the seeds of love for reading in their hearts. At this point, reading is no longer an isolated activity, but an interactive process full of fun. In this process, the children gained not only knowledge, but also friendship and growth.

Moreover, the children actively participated in the design of book covers, demonstrating their ingenuity and creativity. They eagerly picked up their paintbrushes to create unique covers for their favorite books.

Although the Reading Carnival may be fleeting, reading itself lasts a lifetime. In the storybook named MKBS, all the children are the protagonists. They use their talents, hard work, and wisdom to create vivid characters. Similarly, we eagerly await more vivid and touching stories that will bear witness to each child’s growth and transformation.
