Have you ever heard of utilitarian learning before? Utilitarianlearning is a learning pattern to cope with exams, obtaincertificates, or improve one's job skills. This learning method isusually more practical and efficient, which can help peoplequickly master some practical knowledge and skills, and improvetheir competitiveness.

On the other hand , it has some drawbacks. Firstly, it may lead to knowledge fragmentation, making it difficult to master acomplete knowledge system. Secondly, utilitarian learning mayead people to overlook more important qualities and skills, suchas critical thinking, innovative thinking, and interpersonal skillsFinally, utilitarian learning may make people feel stressed andfind it difficult to truly enjoy the process of learning

Greta

In the past, I have always believed that learning and reading areonly for passing exams.I study hard in order to get higher scoresOur school asks us to read some famous books, and ask somequestions about these books in the exam. I never really felt theemotions of the characters or the principles taught in thesebooks. I just remember the key plots that will be tested in examsBut when I met some difficulties and felt depressed, I find thatalthough I have read many books, I haven't really learned how toface difficulties and control my emotions. Except those examquestions, maybellearned nothing from reading

There is a book that left a deep impression on me calledEducated, written by Tara Westover. This is one of the booksthat the school ask us to read. The second time I read it,thisbook has had a great impact on me. lt told me "the greatest actof courage is simply to keep going." When I felt depressed andhopeless, books gave me a lot of strength. For the first time, lreally felt the power of reading, which gave me the courage toface difficulties.I realized that compared with utilitarian learningmaintaining a love and curiosity for knowledge is better for selfimprovement.

I can't say utilitarian learning is bad. lt also has advantages, itcan take us into our dream universities and help us get dreamjobs. But more importantly, it is a type of non utilitarian learningbecause this learning method allows us to think, explore, andexperience.
